A little background: my wife graduated last May and got a job, we got married in June. Other than student loans, the only things on her credit report was the car loan we took out last August. She has never had a credit card, so her score was average, about 680.
We are looking at buying a house within the next year, so I wanted to get her score up, without hard inquiries on her account.
I added her to one of my credit cards as an authorized user, with a limit of $13,000 (balance of $0).
The next cycle, her Credit Karma scores jumped up to 740.
I just thought I'd share this quick and easy way to get a spouse's credit score up, without incurring hard pulls on their account. In my opinion, this is something that should only be done with a spouse, and with a card that has zero balance.
For those wondering, it was a Citi credit card, who does appear to report Authorized Users to TransUnion and Equifax
