Wife and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary this summer with a 2-day trip to a nearby big city. The trouble is, I've always been wired for frugality. I never spend money on anything unless I need it and it's on sale. I know that my wife would love a nicer experience, but I see $300+/night downtown hotel prices w/ $60/day just for parking, and I just can't justify it vs. something cheaper, further away, and less nice. How do you decide when to override your natural instinct to say no to something nice? We've set ourselves up to drop 20% on our first home this year by always saying no to luxuries, but it's like there's no mental leeway to ever let myself say yes. And I'm not sure whether I'll regret it. (I estimate the 'nice' version of our anniversary trip would probably run an extra $500; wife isn't pushy either way).
