Ok so this has been bothering me for a while, so I just wanted to share my friends job situation. Currently, a friend works a $45k/year job and his management has been over-promising him "perks" for years in order to have him work about 60hours a week on average.
Promise #1: Free tuition paid for the NYU MBA program, not only that but they said he would not even have to apply, his boss is apparently "well connected" and one phone call would get him into the program. (2 years ago, nothing).
Promise #2: Similar to last one, free tuition for Syracuse MBA, and you guessed it, no need to apply, just one phone call and he would be attending the classroom. (1 year ago, nothing).
Promise #3: $20,000 bonus if the company hit $100 million in revenue, they did but he had to work nights/weekends, fly to Florida/colorado on his own expense; and at the end of the year he got about $2300 bonus.
Promise #4: ownership of 1% of the total company, but but, he didn't get it on paper, his boss said AFTER they sell the company they would give him 1% (no indication that company will be sold for years still to come).
Whats even worse is that he turned down several job offers from companies that offered him higher salaries, just because he keeps relying on these blind promises from people that have no authority to make them.
