I've never posted on this subreddit, but I thought it might be an appropriate place for this. I have a 1991 Ford Explorer XL that I am looking to give away to someone who would have a need or at least use for it. It currently has about 175,000 miles and runs fine daily. The exterior has some rust here and there but is otherwise OK. The interior seats are in good shape and has brand new floor mats. The headliner is in rough shape. Everything inside works.
The a/c does not work and there is some sort of power steering issue that occurs only at idle (so when trying to parallel park it can be annoying). I have driven the car for close to a year and only needed to change the oil every 3k. My mechanic could not figure out the power steering issue and I did not want to put any money into figuring it out. The engine does not leak any oil or fluids, but does make a sound similar to lifters needing to be replaced. Again, my mechanic said he couldn't be sure unless he took some pieces apart and looked inside. This has had no effect on my driving over the past year. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter over the winter and put new tires on. The 4WD works and this Explorer navigated better than my newer SUV last winter.
I simply have too many cars, but do not want this to go to some junkyard or get scrapped. Feel free to ask any questions here or in a private message. I am working on putting an album together. In the meanwhile I can text you photos.
I am located in NYC and pickup can be arranged from midtown Manhattan by Madison Square Garden any day of the week. I would also consider meeting at an agreed upon location. Title is clean and ready to be signed over along with a bill of sale for your records. It is eligible for classic car insurance in NY through Hagerty and cost me $210 for the year for full coverage.
Lastly. please have reasonable expectations and understand that this vehicle is coming as-is. I drive it every weekend with the understanding that any day can be it's last, but so far it's proven to not want to give up.
Thanks
