I've never actually had a credit card, but I somehow have terrible credit. I've always used my debit card. In my late twenties now.

I need to get a new car (commuting 65+ miles a day, current one is a gas guzzler, and it's purpose (beach car) isn't being utilized since moving from San Diego to LA, not doing what I need now). I would really like to keep my current car(worth ~15-20k, paid off on purchase), just because I have two dogs that I used to take to the beach daily and it's kind of the "dog" car. Lots of sand and dog hair in the back. And if I eventually get the time to start that up again (and go hiking again), I don't want to mess up the new car.

So just wondering best way to get an auto loan with really bad credit? I'll work on improving my credit (seems like I have to get a secured card to even start improving it), but I really don't want to wait years for that to happen.

Current financial situation: 100k salary, no debt, 12k in checking account, 300k invested (money from grandparents that will be used for a down payment on a house), just really bad credit. I'm looking to buy a ~30-35k car since this will be something I'm driving for the next 5+ years.
