I'm the third child so I can't really get much help from my parents. I believe the best option for me is to go to the University of Maryland College park given the countless benefits. Few of which are:
- Well respected University
- Freedom from my choking household and the ability to follow my dreams and educate myself seriously
- Intellectual stimulation with peers
- In state tuition (26k/year)
I'm majoring in Biochem and planning to enter med school once finished with uni. I got 5,500 in Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans through FAFSA and 4,000 in University Grants per year leaving me with 16,000 left to pay out of pocket per year.
Currently I'm sifting through local Scholarship opportunities. I've applied for a discovery loan with my mom as cosign for 16k. I'm in the process of applying for a FAFSA direct plus loan. I also plan on doing work-study.
With all this I'm still uncertain I'll be able to sustainably fund my future. Loans could build up fast and even more during med school leaving me in crippling debt. I could use any tips on which loans to apply to.
ROTC in the navy is an increasingly appealing option for me. I've sorta wanted to join the navy eventually and originally thought I could enter it through the HPSP program for med students but idk anymore.
Help.
edit: I have a minimum wage part time job (8hrs/week) and have saved 700$. Thinking of working a lot this summer and possibly buying a car to commute (coming home only to sleep) instead of dorm. Any ideas of where to get a reliable higher paying job?
tldr: Where to apply for loans (16k)? How to make money during college?
