My wife came up with this idea for our new house. I thought it was going to look like a cattle fence (we are going for a rustic / ski lodge look) but for ~$500 I was willing to give it a go.Bought all of the cedar posts from menards and the copper pipe was from a local plumbing supply shop. Other parts included 8" lag bolts and who knows how many 4" finish screws.Started off with 6x6 cedar posts and hollowed three out for the bottom piece. This took many hours of chiseling, but eventually it came together.Next, we cut all cedar posts to length on the staircase and cut the stair case angle to fit at 42" per code. The hardest part was getting the holes right for the cooper pipes. Using a shop smith I first cut a pattern to the correct angle and used a 17/32 drill bit to drill all of the holes for the stair and bridge area.Using a pipe cutter I cut all of the pipes length and then it was time for assembly!Putting the pipes in proved to be harder than expected and involved a lot of twisting and hammering. Eventually it all fit together and I drilled and screwed in 8" lag bolts into each post and added punish screws to the bottom plate every 4 inches to ensure nothing would wobble.Great project and saved about $3k over having a traditional banister style staircase from the lumber yard![pictures](http://ift.tt/2oNN6Wc) http://ift.tt/2p8D0To via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2oNTlJG
