So as of right now, I only have one job. I get anywhere from 20 to 40 hours per week, and the schedule is never steady. At my lowest, I'll make $600 per month, and at the highest, $1200. Lately it has been around $700 per month.
I have the following monthly payments: Comcast $85 (will go down to $60 soon) Phone $30 Insurance $27 (will be $180 when we get our car; current car is broken down, aka "in storage") Transportation $240 (will go away once we have a car) Misc. costs like hygeine products, food, medicine, co-pays for my frequent doctor visits, etc. are usually around $100 to $120.
So, I should be able to put away $150 to $300 per month, right? Not so. My mother has been asking for money more and more lately. She needs it for beers and such, which I don't want to give her, but she gets mad to the point of threatening to kick us out if I don't do it. When she asks me for $20, $40, or whatever, every other day, it adds up quick; then I have to tell her no, and we know where that leads.
I have outstanding bills that I need to pay. One for about $365, a hospital bill of $251, a utility of $150, and another for around $30. Our credit scores are not the best.
We receive food assistance of $210 per month due to my boyfriend not having a job. This usually covers the majority, if not all, of our food costs. It all depends really on how much we spend on stuff like bottled water (since the water around here is not drinkable.
Before a bunch of stuff happened, I was doing okay with just my part time job, and paying rent. Currently, I do not pay rent. I've had to move in with my mother. Unfortunately, it is getting very unstable here, and we have to move (my boyfriend and I, that is.) We moved here under the idea that my mother had stopped drinking, doing drugs, and become stable. That was a lie. Things have gotten bad lately. We live in a trailer park near Detroit, MI, that looks damn near abandoned (condition of the trailers, not amount of people.) My sister went to the hospital, and now my mother is letting strange, homeless men live in the room she was in. One of them recently shot someone right outside the trailer, and I feel uncomfortable just taking a shower. On top of that, my mom gets about $2000 per month in SSI payments. Her rent is only $695, which includes all utilities. She gets around $600 in food stamps to cover food costs. Somehow she owes back rent and late payments, so I'm constantly worried that we will all get evicted.
Our ultimate goal is to just have a stable home and vehicle, and go to college afterward. Currently looking for jobs and alternative housing with no luck.
