So BIFL reminded me that Doc Martens are now made in China/Vietnam etc., and not BIFL. This made me sad, as I have always loved the shoes and have a 30 year old pair, but was sad to find my newest set was indeed made in China.
Someone linked me to Solovair, basically the old factories that used to make Doc Martens in the UK before outsourcing overseas;
