Hi all,
My wife and I have been offered to live in someone's house for $500/month- all utilities included- the owner owns the house completely but doesn't live there, just wants to keep it occupied. Currently, we pay over $2200/month mortgage and utilities. We have 4 kids and a dog, so it would be a step down to a smaller home- but the house is in a nice area and we would be just fine without 1 extra bedroom. The children would not have to change schools.
Background, I currently own 2 homes, we got slammed with the housing crisis and have kept our underwater home complete with its HELC, it is in PA-we live in MN- so moving back into it is not an option. We have purchased a second home in MN, that I would sell to get into the rental, I can make some money on it that I would use to pay off the debt on the PA house. We would then pay off our other debts, car and student loans, and then save like mad for a full 20% on a new home. I make 100K/year, my wife stays at home.
We are sick and tired of living pay check to pay check and not really being able to enjoy life because we are always stressed about money.
Is it a good idea? Let me know your thoughts. We're thinking this is a blessing, but want to know your thoughts. Thanks.
