Hey all. I'm playing around with my budget. I graduated from college with a pretty useless degree (yay!) and I'm accepting the fact that a higher paying job isn't in my future for a while. So I've been doing some hypothetical budgeting.

I've found places for as low as $400-$500 online in my area. I'm currently looking at places with friends, but I also wanted to see what it would take to live on my own in case somebody gets cold feet.

I make $1600 a month. I pay on a car, my degree, obviously saving where I can, my phone, groceries and prescriptions/copays...but thankfully not insurance yet. Basically the only thing I DON'T pay is rent. I manage to put $400-$500 into savings each month as it is. But that's the biggest hurdle. I've found ways already to cut corners to put back more money than I already do, thankfully.

I could break this all down and share my current budget but putting it simply: I save the amount of money I'd be paying for rent anyway and generally have $100-$200 left over in my checking account before my next paycheck. I could save much, much more (Probably $200 every time if I put my mind to it and made serious cuts) but I am guilty of splurging on eating out, seeing movies, road trips, video games, booze, etc.

What's the cheapest place you've lived in? Where in the world were you living at the time? Any general advice for scraping by when you've got tons of debt and a pretty low paying job?
