After I heard this Planet Money podcast, I deleted the DOW from my stock app. I had no idea how useless an index it is. I knew that it tracks a relatively small number of companies (30), but I didn't know that they are represented in the index by share price ignoring market cap. One company going up a point might be 10x the percent impact compared to another company going up a point, but in the DOW a point just counts as a point? Really? Wow.
