I used the search function before posting, and haven't found any similar posts, so here goes:
Recently, an acquaintance of mine contacted me on Facebook. I went to high school with him (finished HS last year so not far back at all) and we played on the same football team, had senior classes together etc, so I know him fairly well, but I never considered him a "friend" per se.
Fast forward this past week, he contacts me with a "business proposition". Well, I've dabbled in simple investments and read enough on finance and in this book to be interested enough, so I ask for more info. He tells me that the business he works for (no name, first red flag) can help people generate a passive income if you invest your wasted time into it (flag number 2, never mentions what you actually have to do). He says they're holding a conference in a local restaurant this Wednesday and that I should go, no entry fee required, and they'll explain the full details there.
Now here's the thing that made even more alarms go off: when pressed for further info on the subject, he merely laughed and said that all the info would be disclosed during the conference, and kept repeating how "great it's gonna be! The worst mistake [I] could make would be not going!", and how there'd recently been a conference in Dallas etc.
So, I'm not dumb, I don't plan on investing if it looks to me in any way not to be a legit form of business, but at the same time, I tell myself that it's free of charge to go, and this guy isn't a particularly bad person, so it might actually be a legit sales opportunity or something similar. If not, I'll just leave and keep my money. All I need is advice from more experienced people to know what I'd be getting into. Does this sound like a Pyramid Scheme kind of thing? If not, maybe a scam?
Thanks in advance for all your answers!
