So this week is spring break at my college and although we have the option to stay in the residence halls, there will be no dining services. I live far away so I am staying and I am trying plan my meals for this upcoming week.
My plan was to buy everything I need for this week from Walmart for under $50. What I mostly need is meal ideas from you guys!
(Side note - I lift weights frequently and I am currently restricting calories so I want protein dense meals, at least 20 grams at each meal, and meals no more than 600-800 calories.)
Breakfast I have covered. It will be 2 eggs and oatmeal every morning.
Lunch I was debating if I should have tuna sandwiches, PB&J, soup, grilled cheese, etc.
Dinner I would like to have a bag of frozen steamfresh vegetables every night along with some type of animal protein and slow digesting carb. I was wondering if I should buy a rotisserie chicken and carve out portions for the week? I may also buy a cheap steak, or even cold cuts.
My cooking supplies are quite limited; I have silverware, plates, a bowl, a frying pan, a muffin pan, coconut oil, and a cutting board. What can I accomplish with these items? Also, my residence hall has a common kitchen which we share, equipped with a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, oven, and electric stove.
A small grocery list I have comprised already consists of the following;
Milk, eggs, shredded cheese, (I already have enough oats), peanut butter, jelly, whole wheat bread, canned tuna, peppers/onions (garnish for omelettes), canned soup, rice, beans, greek yogurt, rotisserie chicken.
I am looking to stay away from processed foods such as TV dinners and things of that nature because they are more expensive and less healthy in relation to preparing fresh whole foods.
Another note, protein shakes will be taken in moderation to supplement any meals lacking protein (1-2 per day max).
I know this is a lot of information but this is the first time I have ever had to provide meals for myself for an extended period of time.
Anything you feel I have left out or any questions you have please ask, I will respond in the comments below. This is my first post in r/frugal and I really appreciate you guys. I can't wait to hear responses!
