Hi guys - not sure if this is the right sub so please do re-direct me if it isn't!
My dad worked in NY for about 1.5 years up until March 2015, I believe. He's filed his taxes accordingly (to the IRS and CRA) for 2014 and 2015. However, last year, he brought forth a complaint against his former US employer and in the end, they came to a settlement of $12k (USD). He does not have any work-related income from the US for 2016 but does have this settlement that he obviously has to file. He does have someone doing his taxes for him but I'm not completely sure he knows what to do - so we're in the processing of finding someone else in Toronto that would know how to appropriately deal with this. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
