I have a lot of hobbies, and hobbies inevitably require lots of gear. I personally love researching new items, debating between alternatives, and then trying to find the best price on whatever I ultimately decide will be best for what I need.

This search oftentimes leads me to Amazon. I prefer Amazon because of their return policies, customer service, convenience, and most of the time competitive prices and useful reviews.

To help make sure you get the best price, try using Camel Camel Camel. Strange name, but for whatever product url you enter, you will see the historic price of that item, and be able to set price alerts that will send you an email or tweet whenever the item's price drops to a price point of your choosing. This is a great tool if whatever you are buying isn't something you need right away.

When choosing between two alternatives on Amazon I often rely on the user reviews and lean towards the item with a higher average star raining and a larger number of reviews. Unfortunately not all reviews are created equal.

Try using Fake Spot to determine the quality of an items reviews. Copy the url of the item into the website and it will then analyze all of the reviews to determine if there are unusual trends in the words or phrases used (ex. if all the reviews have similar text), look at the date they were posted (ex. if all the reviews were posted on the same day, that is suspicious) and also look at the history of the individual reviewer's other reviews (ex. see if they only review products from a specific seller).

I've used both of these successfully to shop smarter on Amazon, hopefully they can help you guys as well.

Tldr; Use http://ift.tt/2lfACGa to check an items historic price and set price alerts to save money. Use http://fakespot.com to make sure an items user reviews are trustworthy.
