Previous employer fell for a social-engineering scam and handed over my W-2s to a hacker - How should I protect myself?

So far I've:

1. Signed up for for a free year of credit monitoring service provided by my old employer

2. Placed a 90-day fraud alert on the 3 credit bureaus

3. Monitoring my Credit Karma account every week for suspicious activity
