Tax burdens and maximizing you ROI and minimizing your tax burden is complicated enough as a US citizen in the US. If you're a US citizen living outside of the US, then it gets about 800 times more complicated, having to deal with 2 different tax systems, state taxes, and about a million other things, it gets really complicated, really quickly.
I'm trying to find a qualified financial advisor (fee-only advisor with fiduciary responsibility, CFA/CFP certifications, etc), but would like to avoid paying a hefty annual fee, and one would like to find one who is qualified and experienced in understanding the unique issues for investing as a US expat.
I have a pretty good idea of how I want to invest--mainly opening up a brokerage firm and investing in low-fee ETFs of various markets. However, how to do this optimally while minimizing my taxes due to 3 different governments is making me want to rip my eyes out.
I had been recommended to any of the big 4 accounting firms, hearing that they should all have experts for me, but looking around their websites, I cannot find anything in regards to financial advisory for personal investors, which I am.
For additional information, I'm a US citizen employed in Japan to a Japanese organization, with a US residence in Alabama, married to a Japanese citizen.
If anybody has any information whatsoever that would help me get in touch with a professional, qualified advisor, I would have the utmost gratitude.
