I'm looking to buy a 1997 Honda CR-V that has about 180k miles. I've seen advice and guides online about how to buy a used car, but usually they are for models that are only a few years old. The sticker price is $2,900. Fair Purchase Price gives me $2,632. It is going to need a new timing belt though, the timing belt package from the local Honda dealer costs about $900. Is $2,000 a reasonable offer? What number should I start negotiating with?
