I was looking over my credit card account with Citi, and was surprised by all the benefits they offer that I was not aware of when I initially signed up. We all know about the increased security and fraud protection of credit cards, and also the rewards. But the fine print on your account may provide several useful benefits that can save you money. Here is what I found for my Citi card. Obviously, benefits will vary based on which bank or account you have, but it's worth looking into.
-
Price matching - If I buy an item with my card and find a lower price within the next 60 days, Citi will pay me the difference. I get up to $500/item and $2500/year of this benefit. This includes sale prices like black friday.
-
Damage/theft protection for newly purchased items - If, within 120 days from purchase, my item is stolen or damaged Citi will pay for it or replace it.
-
Extended warranty - Citi will add 24 months of warranty coverage to stuff that you buy that comes with a manufacturer warranty. For example, if my new dishwasher has a 12 month warranty, I now have 36 months of coverage. You get $10k of coverage per item.
-
90 day return protection - Some stores have strict return policies. If you can't return an item to a store, Citi will pay for it within 90 days of purchase.
-
Worldwide rental car insurance - $50k in coverage
-
Roadside assistance - They don't pay for anything, but call their number and they will dispatch the appropriate services to your location.
-
Travel accident insurance - Up to $250k if you, your spouse, or dependents die or are injured on public transport like an airline
