I'm in my early 20s, don't plan to have kids or anything other than my cat for at least a decade. Trailer homes in my area are usually under $20,000, even less if I'm willing to commute a bit to work. I hate having roommates but living alone in my city is over a thousand a month to rent a one bedroom. I could afford that but don't want to spend that money when I could save or invest it instead. I know I'm never going to get rich (or maybe even break even) on a trailer when I try to resell it, but it's not a bad idea to pay that amount towards the trailer I own rather than someone else's lifestyle, right? I come from a family that never talked about money, I started from nothing but am trying to find my way towards owning a small house hopefully by mid30s. The way I see it is once the trailer is paid off, i can take the money is was using for that debt payment and just start saving/investing to be able to have more money for the some day house. (I know i need to build up credit but that isn't the concern at the moment, just trying to see if the plan is terrible)
Is there some big picture thing I'm missing here? I know there's the societal thing about living in trailer parks but no one comes over anyway and anyone who does would never judge someone over it so I really don't care. I just feel like rent is throwing money away and I'm tried of throwing money away
