I became frustrated with my current job upon teammates quitting, bad hires above me, and offshoring of a lot of people around me (for reasons too long to get into this isn’t a concern for my role)
I got an offer at a very, very prestigious company (I work at a decent sized company now but most people haven’t heard of it) for about 25% more pay than my current job.
The interesting part is that I applied to this job about 6 months ago, and because of long intervals between interviews the situation at my current job has genuinely improved. I informed my boss of this other offer and was promptly told they would match the money and give a title promotion if I stayed.
My current job is remote first and I am surrounded by friends and family from all stages of my life. The new job would force a relocation to a few choices, but all cities I’ve never considered/been interested in, and know very few, if any people. All choices are very far away. COL is lower where I am now.
Is this a rare case where a counteroffer may actually be better? Or is the immense prestige this new opportunity could afford me be potentially worth it in the long run if I stuck it out for a year or more? It’s hard to emphasize how good of a company the offer is for, but it is the type of place people say “holy crap how’d you get a job there”.
Anyone who’s had a similar choice, what did you choose and how did it work out? D
