My wife and I traveled to a wedding in Knoxville on 06/16 and rented a car from Alamo. We got in around 10 pm and there was only one person working the rental counter at the airport. We filled out rental agreement and I declined their insurance, because I put the car under my Venture X card that has really good rental insurance. Unfortunately, that doesn't help me here, because they only cover theft or collision.

Anyway, we got to the car and drove off and I noticed a sizable crack on the windshield on the way to the hotel. I'm usually really good about taking photos before leaving the rental place, but this time it was late and we forgot. I also realize it was dumb of me not to take a picture of the crack right when I noticed it, but hindsight is 20/20. The company didn't do a walkaround like they normally do, probably because it was late and they had no one working in the garage.

Fast forward to today. I receive a $700 invoice in the mail from "Damage Recovery Unit" for a windshield replacement to fix the crack in the windshield, that as mentioned above was there when I picked up the vehicle. How do I fight this? I have no pictures to show that the crack was there when I picked up the vehicle, but they also never did an initial walkaround when I picked up the vehicle and the lady that I dropped the car off with at the end did a quick check and told me I was good to go.

I'm sure Alamo takes pictures of their cars and has some sort of damage log every time someone rents from them, so is that something I can use to fight this to prove that it wasn't me that caused the crack and it was most likely the person before me? Not really sure what to do here. Any advice would be appreciated.
