I could really use some advice about Edward Jones and investing in general.
I have an IRA with Edward Jones (my father left it for me when she passed). Edward Jones did nothing to grow the money, and I've been hacked to bits by taxes and fees. There will soon be only $20,000 left in the IRA, and I'm wondering if I could do better someplace else.
Edward jones has never offered any strategies to soften the tax hits, and their fees have really hurt. Could I do better with another firm?
Also, is there any way to grow the money? My Edward Jones advisor has said there is no way to grow my money and I should just use it while I have it. Edward Jones also told me to accept that average, everyday people cannot grow their money through investing, and I shouldn't try.
Does any or all of this sound right, or am I being given bad advice by Edward Jones? I'll appreciate any ideas.
