Hello all,
I am very financially naive.
I am in medicine making ~70-75k a year currently. I have 330k in student loans, no CC debt, 75k in a checkings account, no savings account (I know, my wife tells me I'm a moron), and I live in a house with my wife, no kids, paying rent+utilities ~$1500/mo (got a great deal, I know).
In about 15 months, I will be serving in a rural non profit place, hopefully at least 4 years to complete PSLF for my loans. I will be making quite a bit of money. ~$750k+ and probably will go up from that yearly. I am in no way equipped to handle this on my own. I have no ROTH IRA, no Vanguard, but I think I have a 401k through work??
-First of all, what is the most obvious thing I should do?
-Second, should I just learn this myself or get a financial advisor for the long term?
Thank you. Feel free to call me an idiot.
