I work as a server in a restaurant where we are cashed out at the end of the shift versus getting paychecks. I’m not new to serving but it’s been a while since I got cashed out per shift.
We have to claim how much we made every shift when clocking out but we also tip out to bar and sometimes food runners. The system only tracks credit card tips so it won’t let you put in any less than however much was made in cc tips that shift. So if I made $200 in cc tips I have to claim $200 or more if I want to claim my cash as well.
There are some shifts where I don’t get any cash at all so instead of making $200 let’s say I actually make $180 due to tipping out to other employees. The system won’t let me put in $180. This happens often so there have been many nights I have been forced to claim more than I actually made. I have brought it up to my GM but she talks in circles or brushes it off.
Is this ok?
