I went to a local PT clinic for about two months at the end of 2023. I asked them both over the phone and in the office for my first visit if they accepted my insurance. They assured me that it covered everything and I just had to pay a copay for each visit, which I did.
About two weeks into my visits I noticed in my insurance portal that I owed hundreds of dollars for the claims that were already there. I went to the front desk and asked about this and they told me that I wouldn’t owe a penny, but instead my insurance would be mailing me checks which I had to bring into their office to cover it. I did that every time I received a check and gave them every single one. Today, three months since my last visit, I received a spontaneous bill from them in the mail charging me over $3,500 due “upon receipt.” Not only was I told multiple times that I was good, but I also hadn’t received any other bills or inclinations about this payment until literally today.
I’m planning on calling the office tomorrow to figure this out but what are my options for disputing this? I’ve been unemployed for two months and I can’t afford this (not that I would pay it even if I could, as I was apparently lied to). This seems incredibly deceptive and spontaneous. I wouldn’t have accepted the service if I knew about this, and I also would have stopped service after those two weeks if I was given a different answer, but I was assured that everything was covered between the checks and my copays.
