My lease comes to an end next month. The dealership has been calling non-stop to bring the vehicle in to finalize the lease. I told them from the start I wanted to pay it off Cash. I already sent my last payment and the payoff amount on the contract is $16,500 plus tax and license. They tried charging me $1000 to have the car inspected to see if they can actually sell the car to me. They said it’s required by CA which makes zero sense. I told them I was paying it off, not financing so why would I need them to inspect it? I also argued that my car is serviced there and I would have been told if something was wrong with it by them. It has no dings, and is under on mileage by 5000 miles. When they brought me the buyout sheet, it went from $16,500 to $19.325 but they hid the $1000 inspection fee with a new MSRP of $17,500. It seemed so sketchy. Doc fee $50 State & local tax $1363 License and fees $371 I walked out extremely upset and asked for my keys back since my lease isn’t technically over. My question is, can I call up Mazda and pay it off directly over the phone and avoid the inspection fee? I don’t want to deal with the dealership at all! Has anyone had a similar experience?
