I’ve watched and read quite a lot of interviews done with some CEOs or divisional heads of a financial institution who claimed that they knew only that which was related to their original areas of work.
For example, an investment banker (at Citi) admitted that she wasn’t well-versed in personal wealth management and therefore refused to give financial advice regarding that matter; the CEO of a commercial bank (at HSBC) shared that she knew very little about stock exchanges and had to read tons of books to educate herself on those related topics, etc.
