I have an Ally Credit Card that is past due. I just brought it back up to current and I asked if there is a program that can lower the monthly payment for a short amount of time. I currently owe $6,708 on the card and the monthly payment is $242 at 27.99% APR. They do have a hardship program that I’m qualified for that will bring the monthly payment to $122 for 5 years and the APR will be at 6% for the full 5 years. The only catch is, they will have to close my account to be enrolled into the program. Is this a better deal then to leave the account opened? Or will closing the card hurt me more in the long run? Just started baby step 2 so wanting to do what it takes to help me out the most.
