I am currently almost $200,000 in student loan debt…. Long story how I got there (mostly years of not understanding what it meant to keep pushing it off until I had a good, steady job but also a few other things) I’ve never been knowledgeable on finances and didn’t come from a family who focused on or understood finances whatsoever (my mom would have stacks of maxed out credit cards that were approved for like $100 each so that we could pay bills & keep the lights on.. that’s kind of the extent of my knowledge on money growing up)…anyway, I’m trying to gain control and not end up in the same place. My issue now is a few things, So obviously at the time I didn’t know what I was doing when I took out those loans. My mom helped me with all of that at the time and then I kind of never thought about it after I graduated, from what I understood they were deferred and I guess I lived blissfully in lala land for a bit… Anyway, fast forward a few years im now 200k in student loan debt. The issue is, I have other debt (credit card) + a mortgage and have no idea how to repay despite making a good salary that from what I’m looking at would disqualify me from these income based repayment plans.

Any suggestions? Has anyone done loan consolidation and does that actually lower their monthly? Right now mine is 2k monthly.
