I've been working really hard recently to pay off my credit cards. A few years ago I took out a credit card consolidation loan ($6k). I put it on auto pay and missed a couple payments because I just didn't have enough in my bank account on that day. They were very quick to discharge it.
This is the stupid part. That was discharged and I knew they would spend a while trying to collect, so I focused on keeping my other accounts from getting discharged. I got into a better place financially, and I've been able to pay off 4 of the cards. Still have a few to go, but I am proud of my progress. I really did put it in the back of my mind and forget about it.
Now, years later, I get hit with this summons. What do I do now? Can I call the law office and ask to settle? Will they want the full amount immediately, or will I be able to settle for less than the balance and do payments? I don't think I can afford the full amount. I also want to start out of court.
Please help!
