Spouse has an old cc he's had since a teen. It has a terrible APR and a lower credit limit. We never use it. Just got a letter saying if we don't use it within 50 days it'll be closed. Part of me would love to see it go but will closing a card that old be bad?
I know we each have our own credit scores but I'm a little uncertain how the credit history length is calculated when he's the main on an account and I'm a joint or authorized user and vice versa. If I combine all our cards, we have an average of 9 years and removing that card brings us to 7. If I split his out, he has around 12.5 yrs and then it goes down to 9.
We're both in the 800s, have excellent credit utilization and removing this card moves the needle 0.2% for utilization. We carry no cc debt.
Thoughts? Thanks!
