I've (25M) always lived paycheck to paycheck, working ~50 hour weeks and had my parents help me with a list of bills.
Luckily, I got a new job where I'd be able to work just 40 hours, be fully independent, while having leftover income after my expenses. However, I don't really have a gauge with what's comfortable.
Would the following breakdown be doable to live on? I have money-related anxiety and could use the reassurance. If I'm not too exhausted with this new job, I'm considering getting a part-time side hustle which would possibly add $400-700 a month
Take home pay $2,468 * Rent — $875 * Electricity — $35 Water — Flat $20 * Internet, gas — Included in rent * Phone plan — $15 * Health Insurance Premium — $35 (pretax) * Auto - $0 (I'd be selling my car and becoming a bike commuter) * Groceries — $300 * Household Goods — $50 * Student Loans — $164 (zero for now) * Retirement Contribution — $168 (6.9 percent of pretax with employer match) * *Leftover — $985**
