Last October my job hired someone who previously worked with me in a different department (that I trained) this person informed me quickly they were given a higher rate than me. This person has worked at the company for 2 years while I have worked there for 7. I quickly setup a case with HR to see if they would be willing to negotiate a higher wage with me and review to make sure I was being paid properly. They basically told me they can’t discuss why other people’s pay is higher with me and what factors into their wage. They also told me I was paid only based on my experience with my previous position at this company as the 2 before that were unrelated to my current job, and that my degree was also not counted because it unrelated to my field(general studies), I also received a certification during my time with this company and asked if that would factor into my wage they said no because my job requires it. The explanation basically was many of the wages for all positions at this job have gone up recently and that raises in the following year should make up for that.
We get to March after are yearly evals and everyone gets a 4% raise this does not compensate for me because everyone who was already making more is still making more it was during this time I learned lots of people were able to get higher wages do to outside experience and also getting the company to match outside offers, I decided to go and get an outside offer myself with a higher wage and brought that to the eval. My case was reopened and reevaluated for further review. During this time they also removed the requirement for certification in this position so I also decided to ask if that would qualify me for a raise since technically it is now an extra credential.
My manager informed me today that my request was once again denied. The reasoning was because “the benefits the job offers make up the difference for the higher wage” and on top of that they will not pay me for my certification (the one they made me get and pay for) because it is no longer required. I’m at a point where I’ve basically accepted they have no intention of matching my wage despite me giving multiple reasons as to why they should. They won’t even have a proper meeting for me to state my case and only will communicate when I make a request through my manager. I know I could just leave and take the higher paying job however my job despite these issues is very lenient about how I do things and I have years of PTO that I’m pretty much free to use whenever I want, so I can’t say going somewhere else for an extra dollar an hour is worth it especially with a longer commute. Before I completely give up on this I wanted to know if I really have any other options in this situation it seems like they pretty much set there own rules and pick and choose who they wanna pay extra and I have no way to actually prove this .
TLDR: my job is hiring less experienced people at a higher wage than me and anytime I try to negotiate a deal with HR I am immediately shut down
