Hi. 18f. My mother passed away from Covid and my father is receiving a dementia diagnosis, I am his POA, and both of my parents' only child. I did not plan on having to enter adulthood without a present parent, and I would give anything to have the guidance my peers get at a young age.
That being said, I have found myself completely financially independent at the age of 18. I rent an apartment with my boyfriend, he works full time and I work part time as well as being a full time student. I am on a pell-grant, and have zero need to take out loans for my bachelor's degree. My boyfriend and I are able to cover our living expenses and do our best to save.
Inheritance: I have received around 25k cash inheritance from my parents. My father also turned over his 2018 Ford Edge that is paid off, into my name. I now keep up with the insurance and maintenance.
My question: What do I do? I obviously want to save my money, and ultimately invest in my future, and handle my money wisely. I recognize the amount I have received I need to stretch 4-5 years until I can graduate and make "adult money." Do I invest? How? What credit card do I start with?
I have been cursed with unfortunate circumstances, but have received a financial blessing. I want to be careful with my money and this opportunity, so, what do I do?
