I guess I never have looked at Debt/Equity ratio while screening stocks. I generally look at Current Ratio or Quick Ratio to make sure the company is likely to meet its nearterm obligations. But for whatever reason, I added this value to a spreadsheet today--and I am astonished at some of these numbers. For example, if I'm not misreading it, Tempur Sealy International has a Debt/Equity of 79.79. My assumption at first was they must have had some terrible recent news destroying a lot of value, but I don't find any--just some articles asking whether it's underpriced. On the assumption my data is wrong I also checked Yahoo Finance which has a value of 7930%, so that would seem to check out. And again, nobody talking about this like it's a crazy value. So what am I missing?
