Recently sold my property in Canada and received $600K Canadian dollars. I work in the US so I will have to convert it to USD as the plan is to purchase a new home. Given the current volatility in the market, what should I do?
-
Hold it in Canadian dollar (invest in safe investments - bonds) then transfer to USD when the conversion rate improves?
-
Convert to USD now and invest in safe investments - CD/T-Bills until real estate market improves?
-
Spread it across different investments in USD (since FX rates are unpredictable) then buy a property when the timing is right?
-
Keep it in Canada until the US market stabilizes.
I think there are too many variables I’m trying yo address, such as FX rates, real estate and equity investments, and I am interested to hear advices on how to approach this cash.
