I'm 45 years old. Made a shit-ton of mistakes in my 20s/30s and now playing catch-up.
Single, no debt. Live in a rent stabilized apartment in NYC. No car. No additional assets (or liabilities). I keep very low overhead and I'm not really a "spender" so later in life I expect to continue keeping a fairly low budget.
As of today, I hit $200,000 in retirement investments (combo 401k, Roth, and standard Index Funds). I have an additional $20,000 in emergency savings in a high yield savings account.
I invest about $50,000 annually.
If I was younger, this would be a fantastic start. But at my age, I know I'm very far behind. I've been with my Firm for about 18 years and earn a decent living. I also have a side gig that earns me a couple hundred extra each month.
But the finish lines feels soooooo far away and I'm already dying for a change. Am I missing anything that could boost my retirement savings and get me there quicker?
Like everyone, I just want to live my life and not work myself to death....but that doesn't seem to be an option.
