In Illinois, I am a young adult getting ready to start a new job, living with my parents and my partner. Dad is dying of stomach cancer. Mom says dad has been claiming he doesnt smoke (he does, Very Much So). She says the life insurance policy is for just under 250,000$ but she says we won't get any of it because dad lied and they will not pay out. I dont know how this works. What are our options? Will they find out he is indeed a smoker? Is there a chance they don't know that he smokes and will pay out? Can we get partial money? Can a lawyer help? Please please help. We will lose the house. I will be okay but my mom and my sister wont and theyre kinda shitty people but i dont want them to be homeless.
