My boyfriend’s dad recently moved from California to Colorado to retire and immediately had a massive stroke. He’s on Medicare and he has about 20 days left in a rehab facility before he has to find other housing/full-time care options. He has a small pension, no savings, and receives SSI. Since we’re in CA, we aren’t sure what to do. We’re in our mid 20s and aren’t financially able to take on full-time care of a disabled senior. Another part of the issue is that we just have no idea where to start or what resources are available to us.
- where do we even start to find resources for housing/healthcare in Colorado?
- can we get some kind of case manager?
- should we have him move back to CA, if the social services benefits are generally better here than in CO?
- can we switch from SSI to SSDI? Will the benefits be greater?
If someone has a sub recommendation that would be better suited for this question, lmk!
