My spouse passed away on March 20th.

He had a currently useful amount of money invested in some stock apps on his phone.

Is it acceptable to sell off the stocks and close it without notifying the company of his death? His checking account and our joint account are still open.

There is no will and no estate to determine these things.

I have 3 children to care for and half the income I once did. I'd like this to be as painless as possible but don't want to end up in legal trouble for closing out his accounts.

Thanks for any advice anyone has to offer.
