I had been contemplating selling hair online for a while. I had been hesitant because I was concerned about how the transaction would be carried out, and while there is advice online, a lot of it is vague, not helpful, or was an attempt to sell a service. I have also found it is not clear on pricing one can expect. Clearly hair has value, but 100-1000 dollars that I see on the internet doesn’t really tell me what to expect. I wanted to sell local because shipping seemed too dicey, but I also had been a little leery of creepy responses to an ad for hair.
Anyhow, I listed yesterday, and this is what I got.
Craigslist - One response trying to solicit “modeling”, within an hour of posting.
FB Marketplace - 2 responses of legitimately interested seeming people within 6-8 hours of posting. 1 additional pointless response from a bored Karen who wanted me to know that my hair was shitty and not worth what I was asking and she wasn’t interested and didn’t think anyone else would be, but also she was clearly mad that I wasn’t donating my shitty overpriced hair. So she was a very complex onion of emotional responses. I just told her maybe don’t buy the hair then.
First interested person that responded to me made arrangements for meetup today (local gas station). Showed up on time, had cash, probably 3-5 minute tradeoff. She said she had a medical condition (autoimmune) that caused her to lose hair. Was very friendly and seemed grateful that I was selling.
Long story short, I felt like it was worth it. I was hesitant to list, but if you take some good photos, have a price in mind, and do a public meetup (still would have reservations about potential hair buyer being a creep and would not wanting them to know where I live) it may be worth it. Apparently there are buyers that are interested and looking out there.
