I'm 25 and male, so yes I expected my rates to be high. (I turn 26 in 5 months, hopefully the insurance rates will go down then?)
BUT NOT LIKE THIS.
I emigrated to the states a while back, but I never had the chance to afford a car before so I didn't think too much about it. I was frugal; I saved and now finally after struggling to afford ANY car now I can buy a solid used Toyota Prius 2015. After checking quotes online for auto insurance, I'm getting state min rates for egregious rates like from $330-500 for a fucking used car from 2015 - almost 8 years ago. I've tried playing around with the deductibles and the coverages, but it's all within in that range for LA, California.
I was only able to get my US driver's license last week, but I have 6-7 years of foreign driving history and I heard state farm factors in foreign experience.
Now new job pays me a bunch more, but I NEED to make the commute otherwise this whole situation wouldn't work. Before I make peace with the insurance listed above, can I as a foreigner who literally got his license a week ago do better than the listed quotes or do I have to bite the bullet and eat more ramen until 6 months later down the line where I can shop for new policies?
Any other immigrants experience the same in the U.S?
