Ask anywhere on the internet or in real life for help with food and you are going to be told to sign up for food stamps and go to a food pantry. Those are great resources but what about those of us who don’t qualify for help?

What about those who don’t have gas to get to the pantry?

What about those who can only go once a month and can’t stretch the food?

What about those who work during pantry hours?

I was literally banned from my local pantry because I pointed out rancid potatoes.

What about those who “make too much” to qualify for food stamps?

I’m a teacher. Today I took the morning off to go to my interview for food stamps and rent/cash assistance. I filled out all the forms, submitted proof that I didn’t have any money (yes this was required), and answered a million questions before being told I don’t qualify.

I have a son. It's incredibly dehumanizing to hear that I’m not poor enough or destitute enough for help. I have to “figure something else out” in order to get food. Food insecurity is terrifying.

Is dumpster diving at night safe? I know how to stretch food but when I don't have anything to work with it's impossible.

It's stressful as hell. I don’t know what to do.
