I finished the year -16% in my hobby portfolio.
In many ways I had my most disciplined year as an investor, and I was able to stick to DCA in major indexes with occasional margin leverage and crypto trading mixed in. But I kept the speculative stuff at a small % of overall portfolio which is better than my past stock-picking and day trading.
Anyway I’m proud that I stuck with my thesis and asset allocations even when I was seeing red. I was more patient this year than in the past.
Lastly: Muck Fusk! Back when I tried to pick individual stocks rather than DCA indexes, I rode TSLA from 2010-20, then sold it all 100% because of Musks erratic behavior. So much potential lost because of his ego. (See FSD)
Personally I was genuinely happy to see TSLA & FB get slaughtered in ‘22. Maybe this makes me a bad person but it’s true.
