Hey all, thanks for taking the time to provide any insight/advice on the matter. Here's my problem:
In mid-2021, I was working in Illinois and my medical insurance at the time was through Aetna. I visited California for vacation but ended up having to go to the emergency room. To my knowledge, both the ER doctor as well as the hospital were out-of-network. I subsequently paid the hospital bill promptly, as well as the ER doctor's fee, after my insurance company covered their portion.
However, the ER doctor's group then sends me a balance bill. I believe balance billing is illegal in Illinois. I brought this to the attention of my medical insurance company, and they said they would take care of it. This was in 2021 and I never received another correspondence from the ER doctor's group again.
Fast forward to just a few days ago and I was randomly checking my credit report. It showed a collection initiated by the ER doctor's group, dated late 2021. As soon as I learned this, I notified the insurance company and they said they'll work on it. It's only been a few days, so I haven't gotten any updates.
My questions are:
1) Is there anything else I can do at this point to resolve the issue?
2) Will I have to pay the balance bill?
3) Is there a way for me to get this removed from my credit report by contacting the credit companies directly?
4) Once the collections claim has been resolved, will it continue to affect my credit score?
Sorry if I'm missing any important details - this is the first time this has ever happened to me. Thanks so much for any help with this! Happy holidays!
