I just got a letter from the IRS with a check saying that I overpaid by $10k. This is very surprising to me and I don't quite trust it. I cross-checked the numbers and lines they called out with what was in my tax return and while the numbers match, I don't quite understand what it all means or how this happened. Is the IRS generally good with these things? Should I just trust they know what they are doing and deposit the check?
