Lets say your crystal ball isn’t fuzzy, and you foresee a 50% drop in the market in the next 3 months. Does it make sense to front load your pretax accounts in Jan, and divert allocations to your taxable account for the rest of the year? This would minimize taxable capital gain losses and give a guaranteed return on the money (assuming you don’t get laid off) via tax savings?
