As the title says. It's not a good moment for my family, those who most care for the house budget it's me and my father, we are working everyday to decrease costs, making the ends meet.
Today my mom got in town and purchased two all wool and cachemire pullovers for two kids who turned 18 a cousin she sees once a year and the daughter of one of her friends. She has spent 89 euros per each of them. When she arrived home she approached me like this 'you won't like it but I've bought 200 euros of gifts' and she was all satisfied. I honestly felt helpless, she has never got this sort of high end stuff for us and we are trying to be essential in out purchases she has splurged the equal of 2 weeks of groceries or all our Christmas gifts in a day, for other people.
It doesn't help that we've never even gotten any gifts from these people and she only did it to impress, feel like a bougy lady. I feel like she's extremely shallow, wasn't surprised that I was upset but I probably shocked her by being emotional. I cried out of frustration and she basically convened I was right but still, gifts can't be taken back, so fuck us i guess.
My mother would never treat herself with such a thing I hate that she got nice things for other people as if she can afford it for her or us.
Does anyone experience stuff like this? Does anyone in your family object the attempt to be frugal?
